Blues Musicians With Jazz Backgrounds
Kim: Rudy Albin has played all kinds of jazz gigs. And I've always believed that it's much easier to loosen up a jazz drummer than it is to tame down a rock drummer.
Fred Below was known for playing with Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson. Fred was a jazz drummer, but there was no winning in jazz at that time, the late 40s to 50s. So he decided to play blues. He became one of the greatest blues drummers that ever lived. So, that jazz background is really the secret in my mind.
When I first met Rudy, he said, "You know, Kim, there's no blues in jazz anymore."
And I went, "We're going to get along just fine."
